Prompt Fulfilled:

Book featuring amateur detective

Stars:

3 ¾ /5

Synopsis:

Scarlett is a genius - having graduated high school two years early - and she using her book smarts and street smarts to run a detective agency. Her latest client is a nine year old girl, Gemma, who doesn’t believe that the recent death of her older brother’s friend was self - inflicted, despite officials ruling it as a suicide. As Scarlett investigates, she realizes that there’s more to Gemma’s brother than meets the eye, and the people that he’s involved with seem to have to do something with the murder of Scarlett’s father.

Thoughts:

- Great deal of action as opposed to slow character and plot development

- Protagonist made many questionable choices that I didn’t necessarily agree with all of the time

Recommendations:

For readers who enjoy:

- reading about mysteries

- reading about POC protagonists

- general twists and turns in plot
